Week 8 highlights in MR!

School Assembly

Today the Year 2’s finished off their Dr Seuss month. We put all our fantastic learning onto a power point and this got shown at School Assembly today! Check it out:

Discovery Time

Today MR, VH and AS class had their first Discovery time together. Our theme was - Under the sea.
We were focusing on trying our hardest and doing our absolute best! There were so many fun activities. We had a ball! Check out some of the photos:

RAP-unzel

Rapunzel is the hot favourite to win ‘A Land Far Far Away’s Got Talent With X Factor Idol’. She’s a teenage triple threat, with the voice of Lady Gaga, the dance moves of Beyonce, and the hair of… Rapunzel!
But when she refuses to sign a contract with the 'udderly' ruthless 'moosic' producer Simon Cow, he locks her in a recording tower high above the enchanted forest to steal her singing voice with a magic tape machine. What can Rapunzel do now she can’t sing? Rap
We had such a great time and thought the show was very funny! We all had a great laugh.

Blends:

This week we have been focusing on the blends tw & sw ! We should be able to say these sounds, recognise them in our reading and write them in our writing.

Maths:

This week in maths we have been practising our skip counting in fives. We are all getting super good at doing this! We must be practising lots at home too.. We have also had a look at doubling and halving. Doubling numbers means that it’s twice as many. We liked doing this. Some of us used counters to help us. After that we had a go at halving. This was a lot harder than doubling! We will be practising all of these things throughout the year.

Art:

This week we did some “Lorax” art from Dr Seuss. We made ‘truffle’ trees. First we painted the background with water colours. After that we cut long pieces of paper for our tree trunks. Then we cut out the top of the tree and stuck it all together. They look pretty fantastic!

Week 7 Highlights in MR

Blends

This week we looked at the blend “th”
We found out that you can have a soft “th” and a hard “th”
We came up with lots of examples. We did a worksheet about the hard “th” and then we made our own like theatre and puppets for the soft “th”
We had heaps of fun making our own little shows.

Athletics

On Wednesday we had our Junior Athletics. We all had a super great time and we trained really hard! Some of the people in our class came 1st, 2nd and 3rd in some of the events. We all dressed up in our house colours to support our house!

At the end of the day we had a house relay. Some of the children in our class were in the relay because they were super-fast runners! I wonder if people remember what house won the relay???

On Thursday we wrote some stories about Athletics. We were trying to use some interesting words in our writing and start it in a fun way! Check some of our stories out:

Run jump throw! Yesterday Adventure Syndicate did Athletics down on the field. We did shot put and long jump and high jump. I jumped like an athlete.
By Matthew

Guess what? Yesterday Adventure Syndicate had Athletics. I jumped like a kangaroo. I felt so exhausted. I won a race. I was super at running. I was wobbling when I was running.
By Evelyn

Yesterday the whole school had Athletics. We did lots of fun sports and some of the parents came to support their kids. My mum came to support me. Some did not have their parents but it was still fun.

Dr Seuss

On Thursday we also did a super cool language experience. This week we read the book “Green Eggs and Ham” so we made our own green eggs……. We just pretended that they were real eggs but they were actually chocolate green eggs! Yummmm!

We got to go to the staff room to use the kitchen. First we melted white chocolate. Then we put a blob of white chocolate onto the baking paper with a spoon. Lastly we put a green M & M on top and waited for it to dry. We thought they were sooo yummy! After that we wrote a poem. We had to come up with interesting words about DR Seuss or Green Eggs and Ham.

Week 6 in MR Class

In MR Class we like to have little ‘brain breaks’ after we have been focusing for awhile! We have a little bucket that we get to pick ideas from. Our favourite at the moment is ‘watch and wiggle!’

On Monday we went to the Cyberbusters show! We all thought that the show was very funny. We learnt that we need to “leave an extra chair.” This means that we need to include everybody so that nobody feels left out or sad. We are really good at including people in MR Class.

We have been focusing on the blends SH, TH, and CH this week. We made some shields and read a cool poem.

For athletics we have been practising hurdles. I think we are going to be super stars for athletics next week!

It has been nice and sunny this week. Some times when it’s sunny MR Class likes to go outside and read a story under the trees. The story this week was “Cat in the Hat” by Dr Seuss. We are going to be focusing on one book each week during March.

Our first activity for the story “Cat in the Hat” was to make some hats! We were learning about word families and rhyming words. We were looking at words that ended in “ap, at, in, ip, an” We are all pretty good at rhyming!

Our next Cat in the Hat activity was to do a Glyph. We had to follow instructions to colour in our own cat in the hat. If we answered yes to a question we had to colour it in a certain colour and if we answered no we had to colour it in a different colour. After we finished colouring we compared our pictures with the rest of the class. Here are some of the things that we found out:

I noticed that only one person in MR class doesn’t like Dr Seuss (Petro)

They might not like Dr Seuss because he lets Thing 1 and Thing 2 mess the house up! (Annelise)

11 people want Cat and the hat to come to their house. This is so that people can have fun with him! (Tessa)

13 people didn’t want cat in the hat to come to their house. I think it is because people will mess up the whole house (Maddie)

Cat and the hat can break things so that could be another reason why people don’t want them at their house (Telesia)
Only one person doesn’t think that cat and the hat rhyme (Matthew)

Most of us knew they rhymed because both the words ended with “at’’ (Kartika)

Lots of people don’t like Thing 1 and Thing 2 because they don’t always do what you say! (Toby)

Thing 1 and Thing 2 are also really messy (Grace)

The people that like Thing 1 and Thing 2 are good at tidying so they don’t mind having Thing 1 and Thing 2 over (Trani)

I noticed that we have more girls in the classroom than boys in the classroom (Max Wallace)

This could be because there were lots of girls at kindy too (Maddie)

On Thursday we made Dr Seuss fruit kababs! We used banana and grapes to make our kababs for the "cat and the hats" hat. We had to follow instructions to make them and then we got to eat them! Most of us thought they were yum, yum, yum!

Today we had purple and white day at school. We all dressed in purple and white to help raise some money for cancer. We all bought in a gold coin donation. The school raised lots of money! We were so lucky because we got given little purple cupcakes to eat. We thought they were super cute!

Next week we have athletics. We are all going to wear our house colours and try our very best. Bring on Wednesday 19th March!
