Back to routine..

Production

After our busy week we are back to our normal routine! Last week was full of production, production, production! Miss Rowe and all our parents were so proud of us! We danced, sung and acted so well! 

Halloween

Yesterday was Halloween! We read lots of Halloween poems and made some Halloween ghosts. They tasted YUMMY! After we made our white, scary, eatable ghosts we had to write down the ingredients and instructions so that somebody could make them that didn't know how. This is what they turned out like…

Hanawiti (sandwiches)

We have been learning lots of Maori words and phrases in MR class. Yesterday we made hanawiti (sandwiches) but we were only allowed to talk in Maori!!! We got to choose what we wanted in our sandwich and our options were ham (mīti),  lettuce (rētihi), cheese (tīhi) and tomato. We also had to know the words plate (pereti), knife (naihi), butter (pata) and bread (parāoa).  We had to tell Miss Rowe what we wanted by saying Homai te.. (pass the) and then we would say the ingredient! We all did extremely well and were so confident! Maybe you could try making a hanawiti at home!

Marble Jar

MR class filled up their marble jar! Wohooo! For our reward we asked if we could have a play on the senior playground! This was very special. Here are some of the pictures.

Grandparents Day!

We had grandparents day on Wednesday. We were so lucky to have Chamae and Mason’s grandparents come in. We asked them lots of questions about what it was like at school when they were seven years old. We learnt lots and noticed that it was so different to our school.. They didn't have computers and IPads! We quite like the way school is now- we are pretty lucky!!!

Jewellery

Today Sophie had some very special news. Her mum let her borrow some of her jewellery making set. Miss Rowe and Sophie had a challenge to see who could make the nicest necklace. Sophie was an expert but they both turned out very awesome! We have some very clever kids in our class!

Welcome back for Term Four!!

New Things in the Classroom...

We had a very busy Term Three and we have an even busier Term Four! We have some new things in our classroom for this term. We have some new "editing cups." These cups are to help us with our writing. After we finish our work we look at the sticks in the cups to make sure that we have checked all our work! We also have have some new things on the window! This is to help us with our narrative writing.. We are such great authors! These signs just give us lots of ideas.. Take a look!

We also have a BIG new pencil on the wall! This is to help us with our pencil grip.. If we have really good grip we get our own little peg up on the pencil! At the end of the week we get a sticker... We are all trying really hard to get up there! Four of us managed to get up on the wall today! Congratulations to Ryan, Ruby, Shaun and Leo! 

Using Ipads in the classroom..

We have been using Ipads during reading time in MR class. We listen to lots of stories on the Ipads. We plug in the headphones so that we can choose our own story. We know how to choose our stories and shut down all the apps afterwards. What a clever bunch of kids we are!! 

Decorating Biscuits..

On the last day of Term Three we got to decorate biscuits with icing and jellybeans! Our biscuits looked so awesome at the end and we had a GREAT time making them. The best part was getting to eat them afterwards.. Om Nom Nom! 

Week 9- Term Three in MR

Wow! Term Three coming to an end already.

We have covered lots this term. At the moment we are busy practicing for our production. We are all working so hard and it is all coming together! We are having three shows next term so we might need to practice some of our moves over the holidays.

In writing we have been writing narratives and poems.. We even got to share some of our poems at whole school assembly. Here are a few of them…Miss Rowe was SO proud of ALL of us!!

In MR we made some treasure maps. We learnt the directions of North, South, East and West!

We ripped the edges of the paper, scrunched the paper up and drew our directions on top.. This is what they turned out like:

Gymnastics

Over the past four weeks we have been doing lots of gymnastics. We had a go at balancing on the beam, bouncing on the blue mat, doing dive rolls, climbing the long rope and lots more! In our last week we got to have a turn on the BIG air track! We all loved this! Even Miss Rowe got to have a turn....

We have been writing lots of narratives in the past week. We know that to write a narrative we need to set the scene (who, when, where, what), make a problem, have several events and finally a conclusion (solving the problem). We have been using as many adjectives (describing words) as we can to make our stories more interesting..

Term 3 Week 5

We have been busy, busy, busy in MR Class!!! We have started doing gymnastics for PE. We love going to gymnastics and we always try our hardest. We are doing activities like balancing on the beam, jumping on the big blue mat, jumping on the tramp and climbing up the LONG rope! Some of us have reached the top already!!

We have been using little rods in maths for basic facts and making a family of facts. We are all so clever!!

Our focus in Maori at the moment is Kai (food). We have started to learn some basic words such as:

 banana (panana) 

hanawiti (sandwich) 

pata (butter)

tote (salt) 

pepa (pepper)

We will be learning lots more too! 

Every Thursday we have been doing a Language Experience with AS Class. So far we have used basketballs to bounce tennis balls, done the mentos and coke experiment, felt spaghetti with our fingers and gone down the big yellow slide! 

We love Harold!

We were so lucky last week as we got to go and see Harold! We learnt lots with Harold about breathing, the air, how to keep safe in the sun and lots more! We wrote these letters to Harold and we are hoping that he might write us a letter back. Click on the link to check out what we said to Harold:

Welcome back for Term Three!!

I hope you are all well rested after the holidays! It sounds like the kids have had a great time with friends and family over the break. We have another busy term that involves Life Education (weeks 1 and 2), Maths Week (week 3), and Gymnastics (weeks 4 -7). 

On Thursday MR class and AS class had a turn at going down the big, yellow slide on the senior playground! We came up with some FANTASTIC stories. Here are a few:

Weeeeeeee! Yesterday MR and AS class went to the senior, fast slide. The colour of the slide is yellow. I went fast like a shark, a very long shark. My biggest fear was going on my tummy. I went fast like a bullet train. Weeeeeeeeee! (Keelan).

Woohoo! MR and AS class went down the big, bumpy, yellow slide. We went yesterday. Some people went turbo fast like a jet pack and slow like a stuck rock. (Ryan). 

Cling! Zoom! Yesterday MR and AS went down the big, yellow slide. I shot down the slide like a big bouncy ball! (Mason). 

Zoom! Yesterday MR and AS went down the super duper, wet slide. Oh no! My bum is wet! I went down as fast as a rocket! I had lots of fun going on the slide. (Boh). 

Weeeee, Splash! Yesterday our class and AS went to the slide at Discovery School. The slide was like a big, yellow, shiny, slippery snake. When I slid off I felt like a roller coaster zooming on the track. (Shaun). 

On Friday afternoon we got to go and visit Harold in his van. We were so excited! Harold is teaching us about breathing. We are going back on Monday to learn lots more. This is what we learnt today:

We learnt about breathing and oxygen (Sophie B)

We learnt that If you are human you have to wear an oxygen tank underwater (Keelan)

We learnt that fish have gills and humans do not have gills (Baxter)

We learnt about body parts that help us breathe. The lungs, heart, oxygen pipe (William)

When you breathe out carbon dioxide the trees make oxygen with it so we can breathe it back in again (Ashleigh)

We all got a little bit scared in the holidays because there were lots of earthquakes happening. We have been reading books and doing lots of activities about earthquakes  We have also had some practice of what to do in case there is another earthquake while we are at school. Stop, drop and cover!!!
