Island Bay Marine Centre
On Monday we got to go to the Island Bay Marine Centre! It was so super fun! We got to touch lots of different sea creatures in the 'touch tank' and then we got to go around exploring rock pools. Lots of us had our parents there which made the trip even better! After we were finished we went to the park and ate our lunch and had a play on the play ground. Check out some of the photos from our exciting day:

What's been happening in MR Class?
This week MR Class learnt to use the Spell-Writes. We have
been learning to underline our words in our writing and some of us are ready to
start finding those words that we underline in our Spell-Write. A Spell-Write
can be hard to use but we are all just so clever and have picked up on it
really quickly!
Last week we looked at ‘tr’ sounds. We made some ‘tr’
posters. They turned out great! The same day we also made truffles with AS Class. They were yum, yum, yum!
On Tuesday we all did some fantastic writing. We have been
focussing on ‘under the sea’ so we got to try SEA WEED! We found out
that ten of us liked it and ten of us didn't like it. We talked about what it
tasted like, felt like and looked like. Some people said it tasted like rotten
fish! Other people said it felt like fish scales! Someone even thought it
looked like a green door mat! We used lots of describing words in our writing.
The Discovery Wall is soooooo full! So many of us have been
doing lots of writing and research about our ‘under the sea’ topic. Well
done to all those children that have been doing extra work at home! It is great
to see children becoming independent learners!
This week for topic we have been learning lots during
reading. One group read about turtles and made some fantastic turtle posters.
As
a class we learnt about the tide. We learnt what a low tide is and what a high
tide is. We also discussed what a low tide leaves behind on the beach. When the
tide is out you can find fossels, clams, sea weed, shells, crabs, rocks,
driftwood, sticks, star fish. Because we have our trip on Monday we discussed
what we had learned about so far. This is what we said:
-We have found out about lots of fish
-We have found out about pollution and rubbish in the water
-We have found out what a coral reef is and what lives there
-We know that some sea creatures need to come to the surface
to breathe
-We know what lives in rock pools and how we look after them
-We know that mammals are cold blooded. There are cold
blooded and warm blooded animals in the ocean.
-We know what a high tide and a low tide is
-We know information about sharks, star fish, jellyfish,
dolphins, whales, turtles from reading lots of stories.
We had a fantastic time having a pirates and princesses day!
We were involved in lots of fun activities and got to dress up! Take a look!
