This week the Student Council held a Wheels day to raise money. We got to bring in our scooter, bike or skateboard and have some fun at Lunchtime and Morning Tea time.
The next day we went over some safety reminders for when we are on our bikes and scooters. We discussed looking before crossing the road, wearing your helmet properly, watching where you are going, not going too fast and many more safety tips. We then had to design our own safety helmet!
Kia Ora and welcome to our class! We are lucky to have 22 friendly and intelligent Year 3 and 4 students in our class this year. Make sure you keep updated with all the exciting learning that is happening in MR for 2016!

Topic- Character in a bag
This week we have been talking about characters in different stories. We got to choose one of our favourite story and find out lots of one of the main characters.
We got given a brown paper bag. We first had to draw the character on the front and write the name of the character. On the back we had to write the title, illustrator and author. We also wrote down some of the main events and our favourite part of the story. Then we had to draw pictures of the . characters most favourite things. We had to come up with at least seven items to place into the bag.
We all did a fantastic job! Once we had finished we shared our bags to our learning buddies and some of us even got to share them to the class.

Our Book Reports
Lately we have been reading lots of chapter books for our chapter book challenge. We had to choose one of our favourite stories we have read to make a book report. We had to talk about the characters, the setting, our favourite part, the beginning, middle and end and many more. We did a great job remembering what had happened in our stories.
Big Buddy Time!
This week we got to see our lovely big buddies. We always get so excited when we see them. After Assembly on Friday afternoon we booked the PE Trolley and got to have some fun in the sun with our buddies.
Multiplication- Maths!
This week we have been learning some of our times tables. We
are using the strategy ‘skip counting’ to work out some multiplication
problems. We started with x2, x5 and x10 because we know how to skip count
easily with these numbers.
Some of us also started to learn how to skip count
in threes to work out some equations.
Get Set Go!
This week we carried on learning how to catch a ball properly. We got to use balloons to help us catch. We did soooo many fun exercises that really helped us keep an eye on the balloon and move towards the balloon to catch it.
Check out some of the photos of us practising.

Reading- Plays
This week MR Class has been focussing on plays. We have been learning to use a loud and clear voice and to use expression when we are reading. We got to perform our favourite play of the week to the class. Miss Rowe was very impressed with the different voices that were used.
Discovery Time- Fractions
This week for Discovery Time we continued to learn about different fractions.
We have been learning about a whole, halves, quarters and thirds. We know that they can also be written as symbols or drawn as a picture. In Discovery time we got to make and cut up sandwiches into fractions. We got to cut up apples into quarters and luncheon into fractions too. We also had a go at dividing up playdough and playing some fraction games.

Get Set Go- Lesson 2
On Thursday we had our second lesson of Get Set Go! This time we were learning to catch balls properly. Tim gave us three tips to help us catch the ball.
1. Look at the ball
2. Move towards the ball
3. Get our hands ready for the shape/size of the ball.
We had lots of fun practising! We have some homework to do before next session. We have to throw the ball up in the air and then clap once and catch it again. If you can do that, then clap twice and keep moving up the levels. I wonder what level people will get up to?

Library Visit
On Tuesday MR Class went on a trip to the Whitby Library. We were allowed to issue some books to take home. Lots of us had our own library cards. It was very exciting! We enjoyed listening to a story that Margaret, the librarian, read to us and really loved looking at lots of new stories. On the way back to school we were allowed a little turn on the playground. We were lucky that it was such a lovely day. A big thank you to all the parents that came along with us!
Wonkey Donkey
On Wednesday we were very lucky as Craig Smith (the author of Wonkey Donkey) came to our school. We really enjoyed listening to his stories and joining in the funny songs. We hope he comes back again another time!
