This week we started to have a look at measurement. We started by comparing different lengths with cubes. We had to use a starting point and know where our ending point was. Some of us that finished early used our hands to measure the length of tables, rulers and other equipment around the classroom.
This week we got to go down the yellow senior slide. We are not usually allowed on this slide as it is just for the big kids. We all had a turn going down the slide and then we came back and did some fabulous writing. We were learning to use adjectives and similes in our writing. Here are a few examples:
"Weeee!" Today in MR Class we went to the big broken slide. When I lined up with 25 other children I felt nervous because it was a little bit broken. Yay now it's my turn! Splash! Oh no, I got a little bit wet from the giant slippery slide. I had a giant smile on my face. I hope I get to go on it again with the awesome MR Class. By Petro
"Ahhhhhh this is so fast!" On Thursday MR Class went to the fast and cool slide. We lined up for our turn. "Finally it's my turn!" I clonked up the stairs. 1 2 3 4 5 GO! Wooooosshhh, zoooom! I went flying down the slide. I felt dizzy after that. "Oh no! Not again!" By Yvonne
Bump! Today MR Class went to the big kids slide. I was so excited. When it was my turn I got a big fright by the bump on the slide. It was as long as a snake and it was as slippery as a snail. By Tessa
Splash! I went on a wet slide. Today MR Class went on the big kids slide. Max Wallace went first and I got to go second. Everyone was in line and we had to take turns. If that slide was a tower it would probably be about 20 metres tall. The slide was as bumpy as a mountain. It went in different directions. It made me feel very happy. By Toby
Kia Ora and welcome to our class! We are lucky to have 22 friendly and intelligent Year 3 and 4 students in our class this year. Make sure you keep updated with all the exciting learning that is happening in MR for 2016!

Highlights of Week 5
Discovery Time
Our theme this week was towers! Our aim for Discovery Time was to work together as a team to make different sized towers. We had to try and make a tower higher than our hip. We made them with blocks, recycling boxes and many more materials.
Here is what a few of the children said about Discovery Time this week:
Telesia
Chloe and I worked well together. She helped me build my
double flower.
Cody
I said that people can play with me when they asked me.
Matthew
Vincent and I were working together and he was passing me
the cello tape
Petro
I asked Maddie if she needed helped and she said yes so I
helped her.
Max Wallace
I worked with Blake and it made me feel happy
Annelise
Yvonne, Kartika, Evelyn and I made a castle for Miss Rowe.
We all worked as a team.
Haley
When I was building a tower three people came to play with
me. They were Tessa, Yvonne, Milla and Vanessa.
Spelling
We have been doing soooooo well with our spelling testing on a Friday. This week our big buddies tested us so we tried super hard. We loved having our big buddies come and test us!
Persuasive Writing
This week we carried on having a big focus on Persuasive Writing. We wrote about different topics and had to try and get the reader to think the same as we think. Here are a couple of examples:
In my opinion I think that you should buy my lovely teddy. To start with that means when I'm scared I can hug him. Also when I'm bored I can play with him because he's soft. At last I can sing with him. Teddies are the best! By Annelise
I think that spring is the best season! For one thing in spring the daffodils bloom. Also, everybody is happy. Lastly, I wish that Spring would be every day! By Evelyn
I think that summer is the best season. To start with summer is the best season because babe animals come out like piglits and chicks. This means people can laugh and laugh if they are doing something silly. Next you can go to the beach and build castles and play in the water. This means you can dry off quicker. Finally you can bounce on your trampoline or ride a bike and run and walk with your family. That's why I like summer.

Week 4- Maths Week
This week it was Maths Week so today we had a school wide mission to complete! It was called the Magnificent Maths Mission. We were all put into teams to complete different challenges around the school. Each team was called some kind of shape and it ranged from years 0-8. The big kids were really good at helping us out with some of the harder challenges. We spent twenty minutes in each classroom so we had to do each challenge pretty quickly.
This week we got to see Harold again. Harold taught us about the different food groups that we need to eat in order to have a balanced diet. We also talked about the food pyramid and told Harold where things go on the food pyramid. Here are some of the stories we wrote about his visit:
Yay! Yesterday we went to see Harold. I had so much fun. First we saw a monkey and his name is Jocko. It was his birthday party. He had some presents to open. The only food he had at his party was bananas so Harold had to go to the super market. Before Harold went shopping we rang Harold on the phone and all said a food that is good for you. I said broccoli. Then we played a game. We had to pick a food from the basket and I got coke. By Tessa
Interesting! On exciting Friday MR Class got our first visit in Harold's van. Harold took my little Harold off me but anyway on Monday we went to Harold again. We got to see Jocko's party. It told us to eat different foods. I felt very happy because we were learning about good food for our body. By Maddie
Yum! Chomp! Yesterday in MR Class we went to see Harold and we got to see Jocko's party. There was a banana cake and bananas. Jocko needs to learn to eat different fruit because he will be sick. By Vanessa
Wow! We went to Harold and I got to see Jocko's party. He ate too many bananas. He would only eat bananas because it is his favourite food. Harold sang a song about a balenced diet. Don't just eat bananas! By Cody

What an exciting week!!!
John Key
On Wednesday we were very lucky to have John Key come and
visit Discovery School. MR Class was super excited because he came to see our
classroom and talk to us. He only got time to see MR Class and RB Class so we
were very, very lucky! Here is what some of us had to say about John Key’s visit:
Today John Key came to Discovery School. We did a Powhiri for him. People were asking him questions. He cam to our classroom and he talked to some of us. His favourite band is One Direction. He is 52 years old. He had about 10 people with him and he had a body guard! By Toby
Today John Key came to our school. I was nervous! We did a Powhiri for him. He is a Prime Minister! Our School hall was very busy. By Evelyn
Wow! I saw the Prime Minister! Today the Prime Minister of New Zealand came to Discovery School. We met him in the hall. The Prime Minister came with some other people too. I felt very excited. I think Mr John Key was nervous to see us and talk to us. We did some singing and asked him some questions. He came to our classroom first and he was with so many people. By Benny
Wow! You would never believe who MR Class saw today. It was John Key, the Prime Minister! First we had a Powhiri. Then we asked questions. One person asked what his favourite food was and he answered, "steak, curry and oysters." Another person asked him what his least favourite food was. He said, "porridge!" I like porridge but John Key doesn't like it. After that he came to our classroom and I asked him what his favourite movie was. It was the Titanic but his favourite kids movie is Nemo. It was extraordinary!! By Trani
Check out some of the pictures we had of John Key talking to
us in our classroom.
Harold
The moment has come which we have all been waiting for.
HAROLD! We went to see Harold today and he taught us all about the food
pyramid. We know that there are four important food groups that our bodies need
to help us grow. We know that we should only have ‘treats’ on special
occasions. We also started to learn a little bit about digestion. We get to see
Harold on Monday too.
Shapes, shapes, shapes
Today we had a Discovery Time based around shapes. MR Class
had to focus on giving each other compliments during Discovery Time. We did
this very well. After Discovery Time we had a circle time to share some of the
compliments that we used.
Shape art
When John Key came we had an individual activity to do at
our tables while he talked to us. Check out some of the shape art that we
created. Lots of us were drawing in the lines and creating patterns.
We also did another type of shape art. Here is what Telesia
had to say about it:
Chomp, Chomp! Yesterday MR Class made shape veges! We made
them because our topic is healthy food and our other topic is shapes. So we got
paper, shapes, a glue stick and a pencil. We got into groups of what vege we
were going to make. We had three choices. Number 1: Carrots. 2. Tomatoes. 3.
Corn. My group was tomato. What you need to do is put the coloured paper in
front of you. Then you get the pencil and shape. Next, trace around the shape
with the pencil. Then you can cut it out. After that glue it on the grey paper
and there you go! A SHAPE VEGE!
By Telesia
3D Shapes
We have been learning about 3d shapes and what they are
called. We know what a cylinder, rectangular prism, sphere, cube and cone look
like. We made some 3d shapes. Check them out.
Stephanie Woodman Art
Last week we had an art workshop with Stephanie Woodman. We
created great art work using water colours and pastels. Stephanie was teaching
us how to blend colours and what colours work well together.
Publishing
At the moment we are focussing on persuasive writing. That
means we need to try and make people think the same thing that we think. We
wrote about cats and dogs and had to decide which we thought was a better pet.
Most people thought that a cat was a better pet but then Miss Rowe’s dogs
turned up and we went and saw them at the school gate. That made lots of us
change our mind!
Music
This week we started looking at making some music. We have
been learning about beat and rhythm. We have come up with different rhythm
patterns.

Week 2 highlights in MR Class
This week we said goodbye to a very special person in our school- our Caretaker Mr Kell. VH Class hosted a special assembly to farewell Mr Kell. He will be very missed at our school.
This week we continued to look at shapes so we made some shape monsters. They all turned out fantastic.
After we made our monsters we did some writing about our monster and the shapes we used. Here are a couple of examples:
Wow! Today MR Class made shape robots. My one is a boy. I made a robot and his name is Smile. These are his shapes: 3 squares, 9 triangles, 5 rectangles, 1 semi circle and 1 hexagon. He came from Planet Hexagon. I made my robot out of shapes. By Matthew
On Tuesday MR Class did some monsters. My one is called Ariana. It has 3 hexagons, eight rectangles, one diamond, and one triangle. I also added some eyelashes and made some hair. The colours are pink, purple, yellow, blue, black, red and green. It comes from Lollipop Funny Land. By Maddie
My monster has one big square and a rectangle. My monster has half of a hexagon and teeth and a smile too. My monsters name is called Rosy. I made her out of cardboard. I made her at school. I got the paper from Miss Rowe and I love my monster! By Haley
We have continued learning about the food pyramid this week. We made a big food pyramid to put up on the classroom wall! We know what we should eat lots of, what we should eat some of and what we should only eat a little bit of! Check it out:
