Term 3 Week 1

Brain Breaks

This term we have started to have some ‘brain food’ at 10am each morning. Our brain food helps us to focus on our learning and helps us to concentrate. We have been bringing fruit or vegetables for our brain food and it is really helping us learn!

Our topic this term is ‘Food for Energy.’ This week we have started looking at the food pyramid and what foods we should eat lots of, sometimes and only occasionally.

We cut out pictures from magazines and sorted them into five different groups. The groups were vegetables, fruit, meat, dairy and treats.

This week has been Maori Language Week. Check out what we have been doing. We started to learn how to say different body parts in Maori. We learnt that ringa ringa is fingers, turi means knee, taringa is ears, waha means mouth, ihu means nose and many more!

This week we started talking about persuasive writing and what it is. To start our writing we talked about whether we were or were not glad to be back at school. When we write a persuasive story we need to start with an opening statement, then give at least three details to why we agree or disagree with that statement and write a closing statement. Have a look at what some of us said about coming back to school:

I am glad to be starting school again.
I am glad because I miss my friends in the holidays and I miss jump jam in the holidays.
I wish that school would never end!

I am glad to be starting school again.
I am glad because I missed my teacher. I like working at school and I like doing art.
I wish we didn't have school holidays. Only Christmas and Easter!

I am glad school is starting again.
I am glad to be back because I get to play with my friends.
I am glad to be back because we get to learn.
I am glad because school starts all over again!
