Week 3 in MR Class

For statistics this week we got to sort little people.  We are learning to find different ways of grouping objects. We sorted the little people counters into a number of different groups. We sorted them by the colour of their hair, their skin colour, if they were boys or girls, by their clothes and by the colour of their shoes.

We have been practising to count in 2's, 5's, and 10's this week. Here is a cool song to help us practise at home:

For art this week we drew some minions! We had to follow step by step instructions to draw our minions. We were all super great at listening to the instructions that’s why our minions turned out so well! Check them out:

We focused on running for athletics this week. We were looking at our running style and then we had some races!

On Friday afternoon we got to have some choosing time. This was so we could make some new friends and talk to different people in our new class. We made some awesome robots and all sorts! We also practised our writing, read some stories and played with the toys. I wonder if anyone in the class knows ALL the names in the class yet!?

We ended our Friday with some buddy time. We had photos with our buddies and started colouring photo frames to put the photos in. We are so lucky to have SJ class as our buddies. They are big Y7 and 8’s and they take such good care of us!

We did our first language experience this week. It was a cool science experiment! We put milk into a tray, then added food colouring and then added dishwashing liquid. As soon as we added the dishwashing liquid something awesome happened. Miss Rowe forgot to film it but this is what it looked like:

Welcome to MR Class of 2014!!

It has been a busy but great start of term in MR class! We started off the week by getting to know each other and learning the ways of MR class. On Day 1 we went on a treasure hunt! We looked around the whole school to try and find a hidden treasure box. We found it on our playground in the tunnel! Every time we fill up our sticker chart we get some treasure from the treasure chest!

On Day 2 we made our class rules. First we read the rainbow fish story. We all loved listening to this on the computer! Then we came up with six of our own rainbow fish rules so that we can all have a happy, safe and fun year! We did some drama and acted out the rules so we could understand what they all meant. It was super fun working in groups and getting to know each other.

We have been learning lots of literacy and maths games around the classroom. We will be playing these games sometimes when Miss Rowe is busy with another group.

Our shared book this week was called “The sunflower tree.” We read this story, made sense of it and then wrote about it! We also did some fantastic artwork to go with the story. We were focusing on the “fl” sound this week and talked about lots of words that start with “fl.” We also did some "I Spy" writing this week. We made lots of clues and people have to try and guess what it is! Come in on Monday morning and have a guess! 

We have also been very busy creating self-portraits. First we did a draft in our topic books and then we had a real go! We had to follow step by step instructions and we all did a fabulous job of listening. First we used pencil and then we outlined in sharpie. We got to use cool people colour crayons for our skin colour and then we choose normal crayons for the rest of the features on our faces. Check them out!

We learnt how to use the iPads this week. We worked well in buddies and took turns at using the iPads. We played a game called ‘hungry fish’ where we had to make 10 in lots of different ways. We found out that you can make 10 by 5 + 5, 6 + 4, 7 + 3, 5 + 4 + 1. Some of us even noticed that 6 + 4 could even be 4 + 6 and they both equal 10! We also had fun making pizzas on the iPads. We used our imagination to make lots of yummy pizzas!

Valentines Day was fun in MR class. We read a lovely poem and then made something special for somebody we care about. Check them out:
